About Clara

Clara helps families discover, hire, and manage in-home caregivers. Over 11,000 Americans turn 65 every day. Of those, 69% are expected to require some sort of non-medical care, with the average length of care around 3 years and average spend of $75,000/yr. Medicare doesn't cover any of it, leaving families to pay out of pocket or give up their own family and career to care for their aging loved ones.

Paid care today is largely delivered via local home care agencies. There are over 50,000 of these businesses in the US, and they generally charge 50-100% in fees on top of the caregiver's pay. This is part of what drives the affordability crisis in home care.

A cheaper alternative is to find and employ independent home caregivers, but most families don't have the time or resources to discover, interview, manage, and handle the back office tasks associated with becoming an employer.

Clara provides an all-in-one payroll, tax, and insurance platform for families to directly employ caregivers, and a marketplace for them to discover and match with their ideal caregiver from our network of hundreds of qualified local care providers. Instead of the 50-100% markup that agencies take, Clara's standard fee is 15%.
