About the role

At Clip Health, we are relentlessly executing on the vision to enable accessible, personalized, and actionable health testing, with immediate follow-up, across infectious, metabolic, endocrine, and chronic diseases and conditions. The Clip Platform brings our proprietary glow-in-the-dark nanochemistry in combination with connected easy-to-use hardware and delightful-to-use mobile apps to at-home, point-of-care, and enterprise settings. We are backed by 10s of millions in funding from Khosla Ventures, Y Combinator, and the National Institutes of Health, have an FDA-authorized COVID-19 rapid test in use around the country, and are in late stage development on two at-home rapid infectious disease tests for launch in the coming months. We are based in Fremont, CA and are approaching 100 employees.

We are looking for a driven embedded systems software engineer who has a passion for building beautiful products that have a positive social impact. The software and embedded systems team designs, builds, manufactures, and ships hardware products that are at the core of our biosciences research platform, manufacturing tools, and medical diagnostics products. The hardware that we design must meet a wide range of challenging requirements ranging from privacy, security, performance, and usability. You will play a significant role in increasing the availability and efficiency of medical diagnostics that are reliable, secure, performant, and accessible.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the embedded system software for our diagnostics platform
  • Bring up hardware projects by supporting the design and development of computer/control systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability
  • Work on bug fixing and improving systems performance and energy efficiency
  • Document the architecture and design of the software systems

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Must have experience in C, C++, Python, 
  • Nice to have experience in an HDL like Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience in wireless communication protocols like BLE, WiFi, cellular/LTE or others.
  • Must have a firm grasp of firmware development tools and infrastructure, including source control (GIT, Subversion, etc.), and development boards (BeagleBone, Raspberry Pi, etc).
  • Must be able to test and verify designs, components and PCBAs using data sheets, schematics, multimeters, oscilloscopes and signal generators.
  • Practical experience with at least one Real Time Operating System (RTOS) and strong understanding of RTOS concepts

Education/Experience

  • Electrical or Software Engineering Degree or 2 years experience in embedded systems and firmware development
  • Has experience shipping production grade products
  • Knowledge of computer systems (motherboards, CPUs, operating systems, drivers, peripherals)
  • Familiarity with lab equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators)
  • Experience with operating systems like Windows and Linux
