Dot is an AI data analyst helping everyone in an organization make data-driven decisions. Our custom AI agents trained on company data enable users to ask questions and get instant insights via Slack, Teams, or our web app. Companies like Airbyte, Babbel, Duolingo, Flix, and GLS rely on Dot to democratize access to high-quality data and metrics.

About the role

We’re hiring our first Customer Success / Sales Engineer, a hybrid role where you'll own the customer journey end-to-end, from onboarding and support to pre-sales technical evaluations. You'll be the bridge between our product and users, collaborating closely with founders and engineering to maximize customer value.

In this role, you will:

  • Onboard and support customers: Guide integration with data warehouses and BI stacks, provide training, and ensure immediate value.
  • Drive customer success & adoption: Monitor usage, troubleshoot issues, and share best practices to ensure customer goals are met.
  • Pre-sales engineering: Support demos, trials, and technical evaluations, addressing integration, security, and product questions.
  • Technical advisor & solutions expert: Become a subject matter expert in Dot’s platform, advising customers on optimal workflows and data structures.
  • Liaise with product and engineering: Communicate customer feedback to inform product improvements and guide the product roadmap.
  • Build scalable resources: Develop documentation, tutorials, and use-case playbooks to enable customer self-service.
  • Revenue share: Earn revenue share for successful product usage.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Analytics or data platform background: Experience with data warehouses, BI tools, and SQL; familiarity with Python, Snowflake, BigQuery, or dbt is a plus.
  • Technical problem-solver: Comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, understanding APIs, logs, and scripting.
  • Customer-focused communicator: Adaptable communicator who clearly explains complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ownership & initiative: Self-starter who proactively manages priorities, builds processes, and improves customer experiences.
  • Sales savvy & product passion: Skilled at pre-sales engagement and product demonstrations, passionate about democratizing data access.

About the interview

  1. Apply/Reach out: Send a short email to me (email in SQL statement) with:

  2. Initial chat (15 min): High-level introduction with co-founder Rick to discuss the role and your background.
  3. Deep dive interview (45 min): Detailed conversation (with Rick or another founder) to dive into your experience, skills, and how you would handle customer scenarios.
  4. Meet the team: Two quick 20-minute calls with other founding team members to assess team fit and answer any of your questions.
  5. Practical paid exercise: A short paid project or collaboration (approximately 3 days full-time or equivalent) where we work together on a real-world problem. This is an opportunity to see how we collaborate and gives you a feel for the role.
