About the role

Flow Club is a virtual co-working space where people work in high-intensity sprints designed to double their productivity.

We envision a world where...

  • anyone can access deep, focused flow anytime, anywhere
  • working independently or remotely doesn’t have to feel like you're on your own

Our mission is to build the software that powers the most inspiring and productive work environment for knowledge workers.

Our members love Flow Club. We’re growing quickly, just presented at Y Combinator's Summer 2021 Demo Day, raised $5M, and hiring our founding team.

We are backed by Worklife Ventures, a firm investing in companies re-designing the way work gets done in the future, and 100 more of the world's best investors and operators. Among our investors are Paul Graham and the founders of iconic companies like Dropbox, Mercury, Quora, Outschool, and Sendbird.

Finally, we are inspired by our members and hosts who we see everyday working out of Flow Club building the most incredible things. They remind us great things are built incrementally, one step at a time.

What you’ll work on:

  • Write code, get it reviewed, and then ship it to production on your first day
  • Write and debug code up and down the stack from React components and SCSS to debugging oauth issues and optimizing database indices to digging into video/audio codecs
  • Take part in our biweekly sprints, working closely with the founders and our founding designer to brainstorm potential solutions for user problems and sprint goals
  • Help make engineering decisions and weigh tradeoffs. Think 80/20 rule, but know that that doesn’t always mean trading code quality and maintainability for moving fast. Yes, premature optimization is the root of all evil 97% of the time, but knowing what comprises that 3% that’s going to cost us more time down the road if we don’t invest now is crucial
  • Talk to users to help inform product and engineering decisions towards refining product-market fit and growth

This role may be a great fit if:

  • You have 3+ years of experience with React, Typescript, and/or Python
  • You feel confident bootstrapping a new web app from the first git init to deploying it and sending a link to https://mytestsite.flow.club for the team to check out
  • You enjoy talking to customers and figuring out how we can improve our product to better serve their needs

Why you should work with us:

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • You will build, ship, and own large parts of our product
  • Join learn from an experienced team of 3x founders
  • You will gain valuable experience for starting your own company one day
  • You'll meet lots of great founders, builders, and investors in Flow Club and through our network.

Who you'll be working with

  • Along with our Founding Frontend Engineer, you'll be our first two engineering hires, working closely with our technical founder, who has written all of the code so far.
  • You will also work closely with our CEO and our founding designer

Logistics

  • We currently have a hybrid setup: we meet at our office in San Francisco twice a week and work remotely the other three days. We're still experimenting, but we believe this creates the right balance of in-person energy and creativity for sprint planning, brainstorms, and discussions while maintaining flexibility for autonomous deep work and better work/life balance.
