AI for Construction's Back Office.

FlowManual is the all-in-one AI bidding and purchasing platform for both general and MEP construction contractors. Built by two engineers and Harvard dropouts, FlowManual automates the buying process during pre-construction. With FlowManual, specialty contractors win more work while general contractors deliver at higher standards.

FlowManual — An AI-native back office for construction contractors
See original launch post

Hey everyone! We’re David and Michael, co-founders of FlowManual.

What FlowManual is: AI preconstruction for General and MEP contractors, executing projects while cutting risk.

TL;DR: Construction contractors waste hundreds of hours monthly on manual tasks, sifting through 500-page PDFs only to miss fine print that can cost tens of thousands. FlowManual automates the back-office work before and during construction, so teams can reliably secure and complete projects faster than ever before.

The Problem:

Meet Jeremy. He’s a project manager at a mid-sized contractor, and his job is to secure projects and then make sure the company doesn’t lose money on already thin margins.

A bid invite lands in his inbox. To put together one number his firm can send in, Jeremy has to read thousands of pages. A 400-page project manual, drawings, insurance, spec sections, and so much more. Buried somewhere inside all this print is a line that can ultimately decide whether this job makes or loses money. From a liquidated-damages clause to a scope item sneakily handed to the mechanical contractor, if Jeremy misses it, it’s a $5K-$10K mistake.

Jeremy’s got one week, three other bids on his desk, and no way to read all of it as carefully as he’d like. So he reads what he can and sends in a number.

Say he wins. A change in the signed contract by the General Contractor or a sneaky difference in vendor pricing costs the company thousands after the fact. Every step of the way requires hundreds of pages of reading and referencing done under a deadline. And Jeremy does this for every job.

The Solution:
FlowManual automates these historical workflows that contractors run on, allowing teams to submit bids and complete projects faster than ever before. Here’s a couple major features:

  • AI Takeoffs from drawings
  • Drawing comparisons / overlay
  • Bid leveling
  • Contract Review

Our software doesn’t do the job for you, but it works alongside you to reduce time spent and mistakes made.

About Us:
Michael and David were college roommates and engineers at Harvard. When renovations for a heater in our dorm took 6 weeks, we poked at the problem, realizing it stems from a larger issue. Through hundreds of conversations with professionals, we found an industry that ran on file cabinets, Excel, and page-by-page manual review.

Our Ask:

  • Know anyone in construction? Connections to anyone in the industry, including on the legal and tech side, is greatly appreciated. Anyone in Project Management, Business Development, Marketing, IT are ideal! Reach us at founders@flowmanual.com
