R&D Engineer/Designer at Green Canopy NODE
About the role
We are seeking a R&D Engineer/Designer with a minimum 2 years' experience to join the Research and Development team in creating innovative products, technology, and processes for the prefabricated construction industry. This role requires an individual that is passionate about creative problem solving; can see and taste the vision; has the flexibility to quickly adapt to new paradigms; has a resourceful, generalist attitude; finds elegance in the simple solution; believes in being responsible to design for the people that design solution touches not just the solution itself; and is someone willing and excited to get their hands dirty prototyping and testing their designs.

In this position you will: • Work closely with an interdisciplinary teams on a wide range of problems • Take ownership of work; specify, design, innovate, develop, test, and validate technologies, systems and product platforms for offsite construction • Collaborate with manufacturing to implement factory production processes and automation • Create detailed 3D CAD models, perform analysis, and drawings ready for manufacturing • Produce assembly instructions that breakdown complex steps into layman’s terms • Research both technical and building code requirements (ex. electrical, plumbing) • Work within the team to determine long-term and short-term business strategies • Work outside of primary responsibilities as needed
What you bring to the table: • Educational background in engineering, architecture, construction, industrial design, or related fields • Excellent skill in modeling and analyzing complex assemblies in 3D CAD (Inventor, Solidworks) • Demonstrated ability to optimize designs for multiple prototyping and manufacturing processes • Strong strategic thinking and communication skills • Comfortable with the change and uncertainty • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail • Comfortable working independently, as a team member, and as a leader
Great to have: • In-depth experience in the building or construction industries (electrical, plumbing, mechanical experience preferred) • Experience interfacing with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories to enable regulatory, environmental and product validation objectives • Broad knowledge of materials and innovative manufacturing methodologies • Experience with Revit
Position and hours: • This is an exempt, full-time position, typically working Monday through Friday. Some hours outside of normal business hours will be required at times. • Seattle is the primary location for our office and research & development shop. Remote work will be strongly considered on a case by case basis. Expected requirements for remote work will include travel to Seattle and other locations for in person team collaboration and prototype design work to meet project deadlines.
