About the role

We are looking for a senior data scientist to join our small and growing team. This role is fully remote, but we do prefer candidates in US timezones so everyone has some overlapping work hours. As an early employee, you will have immense impact on the product and business.

Some of the problems you’ll be working on

  • Variance Reduction. The faster users can run experiments and analyze results, the more they can improve their products. To that end, we want to provide accurate statistics with smaller sample sizes using variance reduction techniques such as CUPED.
  • A/B Testing Dataset. There is no publicly available dataset of high quality A/B test sample data. We want to change that by creating a dataset and publishing it on Kagle, where other data scientists can benefit from it (and contribute improvements).
  • Decision and Stopping Rules. Users in GrowthBook must determine themselves when to stop an experiment and which variation to declare a winner. These decisions are hard, especially for non-technical users, and there’s a big opportunity to provide smart recommendations backed by data.

Requirements

  • Expert in Python and SQL
  • Deep knowledge of both Bayesian and Frequentist statistics (and tradeoffs)
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex topics and results to non-technical audiences
  • Fluent English and good communication skills
  • Startup experience or interest working in a small company
  • Bonus: Built or contributed to an A/B experimentation platform
  • Bonus: PhD in statistics or another data-heavy field

About the interview

All interviews are remote and done over Zoom or Google Meet.

  1. 30 minute intro call with one of the co-founders
    • Talk about your background, career goals, and see if the role is good fit for what you're looking for
  2. 45 minute statistics/theory interview
    • Answer questions about Bayesian and Frequentist statistics, types of analyses and distributions, and trade-offs
  3. 45 minute technical interview
    • Answer questions about Python/SQL, including some live coding using an editor of your choice. Feel free to use Google or Stack Overflow as needed (it's an important skill!)
  4. 30 minute behavioral/values interview
    • Questions like "Tell us about a time you had a disagreement at work and how you dealt with it"
