Mobile avatar social network & content creation suite.
This role is for an engineering leadership role on the early team at Hyper Online. You'll be heavily involved in product decisions and be directly responsible for key technical decisions when it comes to building new services, features, or solving problems. You'll be expected to learn fast and have an understanding of new technologies while still being pragmatic about shipping quickly at an early-stage startup. Ideally you've worked on an early stage team before, and have your own projects you can share.
Your initial focus and area of ownership will be the backend services that currently power our social network – from the REST API to the realtime functionality. In the future, this may expand to areas like deploying new machine learning services, platforms, and so-on.
Our current stack:
Nice to haves:
💻 You'll help define and build great services that power Hyper and its' ecosystem. From consumer-facing products to business facing-tools.
📈 You'll be joining a small team focused on a fast growing product. We're interested in a variety of things from augmented and virtual reality, to games, & interactive media – but our goal is to put Disney & Pixar level tools in the hands of everyday avatar creators.
📙 You should have 5+ years of experience building and shipping software, or equivalent experience in public personal projects.
🌎 Hyper is ~6 people right now and we're fully remote, with a few folks in California. California is still preferred right now, but we're happy to talk with folks from anywhere.
🎨 You'll get to look at 3D art all day and participate in the development of one of the fastest growing consumer segments at an early-stage company.
Hyper is building tomorrow's Disney by putting motion capture and AI-powered avatar storytelling tools into everyone's hands. Avatar content (also known as VTubing) has broken into the multi-billion-view-per-month category on places like Twitch and YouTube.
This has given a new group of people the power to tell stories and present themselves on their own terms online while also protecting their IRL identities. But VTubing is expensive and complicated: it usually requires a PC, custom models, and specialized hardware. Hyper (YCW21) is an avatar social network (currently on iOS) that makes it easy to start making avatar content without the expensive PC, motion capture hardware, or specialized software. Just build an avatar, shoot, and use our tooling to start telling your story right on your phone.
We're a Seed stage startup and just closed our latest round of funding (more details soon). Our app is consistently in the 100's on the iOS Social charts over the last year, and we've helped hundreds of thousands of creators build avatars and make content so far..

Hyper lets anyone build an avatar on their phones and use it to make content. Avatar live-streamers use us to record TikToks, live-stream, and make clips for their audiences without an expensive, multi-thousand-dollar PC setup. Pseudonymous founders use our recording tools to communicate with their organizations, too.
Avatars content creators are breaking into the multi-billion view category on places like YouTube & Twitch– we build the tools to bring that power to anyone with a smartphone.
We have recently been growing 100%+ week over week, and just broke a key milestone of 100K+ pieces of content captured with Hyper. If you're curious about the metaverse, augmented reality, or digital identity, please reach out.
