About the role

💼 The Role

We are looking for a Clinical Operations Associate to spearhead pre-clinical and clinical research activities for our market-defining surgical navigation platform.

This role presents the unique opportunity to see a medical device through its product life cycle from pre-clinical verification and validation testing to in-human clinical trials. You will be directly responsible for setting up test environments, sourcing materials, recruiting clinicians, and overseeing deployment of the device into multiple sites across the country. You’ll have front-row seats in seeing your direct contributions impact clinical care. Your first year at Illuminant will involve working with a team of committed clinicians and engineers to design and execute benchtop verification and cadaveric validation studies to generate data that will support a 510(k) clearance. You will play a critical role in the regulatory clearance of our medical device to enable commercialization. Additionally, you will be working with the executive staff to write federal grant proposals and engage with regulatory bodies like the Institutional Review Board and the Food and Drug Administration. You will play a pivotal role in co-authoring the manuscripts detailing the results of our studies and present the work at national academic conferences.

Our ideal candidate is intrinsically detail oriented, academically minded, and willing to evolve quickly. They must have excellent written and oral communication abilities to articulate complex topics to health care professionals, engineers, regulators, and federal agencies. They are energized by the accelerated growth, deep autonomy, and trajectory-setting impact that comes with joining as an early employee. To excel in this role, you will have worked in clinical research settings in the past and enjoy having a hands-on role in product testing.

📝 What Will You Do?

  • Design and execute benchtop verification and cadaveric validation. You will be responsible from everything from material selection, transportation, logistics, and coordinate test participants.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data from clinical studies internally and externally through abstract, manuscripts, and podium presentations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders throughout the country.
  • Write, edit, and submit grants to federal agencies and academic societies.
  • Prepare and submit documents to local and central Institutional Review Boards to initiate clinical studies.
  • Support deployment of Illuminant’s navigation device to pilot sites throughout the country.

🏅 What We're Looking For

  • Must reside in West Virginia, ideally Huntington.
  • Must have 2+ year of Clinical Research Experience, either in an academic or industry setting.
  • Must have strong academic oral and written communication skill abilities.
  • Must have previous experiences in a bioskills laboratory.
  • Must have familiarity with organizational structures and etiquettes in the clinical settings like the operating room.
  • Must be willing to travel multiple times throughout the year to support clinical research functions.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
