About the role

Industrial Microbes (iMicrobes) is hiring a Vice President of Business Development to help set business strategy and lead business development.

The VP of Business Development will play a pivotal role in our growing team, helping to lead the company’s transition from an R&D to a commercial organization. We are seeking a leader, ready to lay the foundations for commercial success as we begin to scale our patented gas-to-chemicals platform. The successful candidate for this high-profile role will be an independent thinker, able to bring creative solutions to new challenges and manage others in a collaborative environment.

At iMicrobes, our mission is to create cost advantaged and more sustainable ways of making chemicals and materials for the largest markets. We are inventing and scaling new fermentation methods that use greenhouse gases as raw materials. Our synthetic biology team has built the world’s most programmable gas-eating microorganism, capable of converting biogas, natural gas, and carbon dioxide into a wide range of products.

About you: We are looking for a creative, organized problem solver to source, negotiate, and close partnerships with large companies. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset and a desire to influence the commercial direction of the company, balancing deal-making with visionary thinking about how best to commercialize our unique technology

The successful candidate will work closely with senior management to craft our partnership strategy and develop business cases. We are looking for a candidate with a significant track record and demonstrated ability to run a systematic partnership process and to close deals.

This position requires international travel to meet with partners. While the position is flexible and some work can be done remotely, there is a requirement to be on-site in Alameda, CA regularly.

What you’ll do: Develop strategies for prioritizing chemical targets and partners Nurture and develop customer relationships Run sales processes for new projects Travel to conferences and customer sites Draft term sheets and partnership contracts with the legal team Manage customer relationships

The ideal candidate will have following qualifications: Experience selling large contracts to corporations with multiple stakeholders with a corresponding deal-sheet Substantial knowledge of chemistry and chemical value chains A strong network of contacts at chemical producers Basic knowledge of patents and intellectual property Experienced negotiator
