About the role

InfluxData is the creator of InfluxDB, the leading time series platform. We empower developers and organizations, such as Cisco, IBM, Siemens, and Tesla, to build real-time applications for IoT, analytics, and cloud native services. Our technology is purpose-built to handle the massive volumes of time-stamped data produced by sensors, applications and computer infrastructure. InfluxData is headquartered in San Francisco, with a workforce distributed throughout the U.S., Canada, and across Europe.

We run Kubernetes in production across multiple clouds and multiple regions. Therefore we are constantly pushing the limits of Kubernetes tools and architecture. Everything from minimizing the time it takes for a PR to reach production, enabling other engineering teams to be able to develop against a realistic environment, ensuring rock solid alerts, insightful metrics, to protecting users from each other through tenant isolation.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design, develop and maintain a fully automated CI/CD pipeline; delivering applications written in multiple languages into target Kubernetes clusters deployed across multiple cloud vendors
  • Developing tooling to support multi cloud native deployments on Kubernetes.
  • Measuring, monitoring and identifying improvements to our pipeline so that developers get fast feedback on code changes during development and deployment.
  • Contributing fixes and features back upstream to open-source tools used in the pipeline.
  • Serve as an internal DevOps subject matter expert, working cross-teams to ensure the components of our SaaS offering are designed to be cloud native and work inside Kubernetes and its ecosystem.
  • Building and maintaining a remotely managed local-development environment.

  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining well structured, fully automated CI / CD pipeline

  • You have experience working closely with teams deploying software to multiple regions in multiple clouds.

  • You know how to collaborate with many teams to identify a company's value stream pipeline and where to focus on optimization

  • You have written, tested, shipped and maintained software in programming languages such as Go, Rust, Python, or similar in a professional environment.

  • You understand many of the tradeoffs of in delivery design decisions:

    • Regularly deploying small batches of changes to production, versus less frequent and larger batches.
    • Checking in dependencies into the main repository.
    • Deciding on a canary, blue-green, or other deployment strategy.
    • Understanding of the test pyramid.
