About the role

As a Founding Engineer, you'll architect and build the core systems that power browser automation at scale — then make them accessible through beautiful, intuitive interfaces. You'll work directly with customers, shape product direction, and own critical infrastructure that processes millions of automated interactions.

What You'll Build

  • Browser orchestration systems that handle complex authentication, anti-bot measures, and session management across thousands of websites
  • AI-powered automation engines that understand and interact with web applications using natural language instructions
  • Enterprise-grade infrastructure supporting real-time, critical automation workflows
  • Developer tools and APIs that make complex automation feel approachable — dashboards, debugging tools, and workflows that just work
  • Polished user interfaces that turn technical complexity into experiences business users can understand and trust

We're Looking For

  • 2-6 years of experience building production systems and user-facing features
  • Systems thinking - you understand distributed systems, concurrency, and performance optimization
  • Full-stack expertise - strong with TypeScript, React, Node.js, and modern web technologies
  • Frontend + design sense - you can build UIs that don't just work, but feel great to use. You understand that good design is good business
  • Product mindset - you talk to customers, understand their pain, and ship solutions that solve real problems
  • High agency - you identify problems and fix them without being asked

Bonus Points

  • Design background or strong visual/UX sensibilities - you know what good product design looks like
  • Browser automation experience with tools like Playwright, Selenium, or Puppeteer
  • Knowledge of browser internals, DevTools Protocol, or anti-detection techniques
  • Background in AI/ML, particularly LLMs, prompt engineering, or evals
  • Previous startup experience or experience building successful developer tools
  • Vertical domain knowledge in logistics, healthcare, or financial services

What We Offer

  • Significant equity in a fast-growing company targeting a massive market
  • Direct customer impact - your code will automate workflows for major enterprises
  • Learning environment - work closely with experienced founders and world-class advisors
  • Competitive compensation - $160K-$235K base salary plus equity
  • Full benefits - health, dental, vision, unlimited PTO
  • San Francisco office - collaborate in-person with the team

About Kaizen

Kaizen uses browser agents to help developers instantly integrate into websites without APIs. We’re tackling the $300B business process outsourcing market by automating all repetitive work done on the computer.

The problem: Most business-critical data lives in web portals without APIs. In logistics, healthcare, and financial services companies rely on hundreds of these systems. Custom integrations across them typically involve weeks of engineering work, a never-ending maintenance burden, and server limitations on automation capability.

Our solution: With Kaizen, developers can automate interactions with any website in minutes. We use AI-powered browser automation to handle the complex authentication, form-filling, and data extraction with ease. Kaizen outshines its competitors in its accuracy and determinism, achieving unparalleled reliability that unlocks the most valuable production use cases.

Insane growth: Kaizen is doubling revenue month over month while serving increasingly complex enterprise use cases. We're in this to win, and are on a rocket ship trajectory.

Our Founding Team

Co-founders Michael and Ken studied Computer Science at MIT, completing a combined decade of AI research. Michael was Head of Infrastructure at Gather ($77M from Sequoia and Index), and Ken was Head of Engineering at TruckSmarter ($44M from Founders Fund, a16z, BCV).

We've raised over $4M from top investors including Y Combinator, Joe Lonsdale’s 8VC, Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors, Jeff Dean (Google’s Chief Scientist), Matteo Franceschetti (CEO of Eight Sleep), Calvin French-Owen (Co-founder of Segment), Aabhas Sharma (CTO of Hebbia), and other world-class operators and technologists.
