About the Role Lob builds APIs that increase the connectivity between the offline and online worlds. We started with our Print and Mail API which helps developers programmatically send, route, and track physical mail at scale. The second API we launched was Address Verification. We believe addresses are the gateway to the offline world. This API helps customers make sure the things they’re sending actually get there.
Customers and developers love our products and we’re growing fast to meet their needs. We offer remote working opportunities in California, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Colorado, Washington State, Utah, and Oregon. You can also work onsite at our San Francisco headquarters.
As an Engineering Manager you will lead a team to deliver innovative, API-first services that enable developers and enterprises to automate the offline world. We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about building teams and solving problems related to scale. Lob is looking for an Engineering Manager who is excited to partner with our product organization to help shape and implement the roadmap for our products. You’ll grow, mentor, and lead a team of engineers, raising the bar on engineering quality and ensuring delivery of solutions that our customers will love.

As an Engineering Manager, you'll... Provide technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to your team Build out Lob to scale: you’ll guide your team to deliver an extensible, secure and resilient architecture Celebrate your team’s wins! Apply engineering knowledge to the design, development and creation of new products and update/establish software delivery processes Be a coach, thought partner, and sounding board: “Coach, don’t tell.” You will help your team build problem-solving skills by practicing active/reflective listening, asking good questions, and giving timely, direct, and kind feedback and encouragement. Recruit, engage, and retain great problem-solvers and collaborators. You’ll be responsible for building diverse, inclusive teams, where everyone feels comfortable and safe being themselves at work. For this role, some things we're looking for... 1-2 years of Engineering Management experience or relevant experience as a Team Lead (with management responsibility) or as a Technical Lead (with management as a next step in your career). 4+ years software engineering experience. We’ll want to hear what projects and initiatives you’re most proud of and why. Knowledge of at least one mainstream programming language, including being able to write, read, and understand code in that language. Experience working with microservice ecosystems in a cloud-native environment. We run our services in containers, with some serverless mixed in. We primarily use NodeJS on AWS but specific experience with them is nice to have, not required. Great communication skills. You should be able to explain your approach and the impact of your work to non-technical stakeholders in a way that is clear to them. Since great engineers and managers come from a variety of backgrounds, it doesn’t particularly matter if you have a specific degree—we want to hear about your contributions in a real-world business setting.
