Why we built Maritime

We believe we’re heading toward a world with billions of AI agents. Everyone will have agents working for them, and businesses will run entire teams of AI employees. A new generation of startups will build and sell these agents, giving every customer one of their own.

We started working on Maritime when OpenClaw was released. Now, with dots, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Muse, that future is taking shape. We saw the infrastructure challenge firsthand while hosting hundreds of agents during our research at MIT. Even at that scale, our time went into getting environments running, maintaining them, and debugging individual agents.

Running billions of agents will require infrastructure that lets developers give each one a persistent computer and manage entire fleets with ease. We’re building Maritime to make that possible, so any startup can launch an agent product, give every customer their own agent, and scale it to millions in no time.

What Maritime does

Maritime gives every agent a persistent computer and manages the infrastructure around it:

• An isolated VM for each agent. Run code, install software, and use a browser.
• Pricing built for scale. Hosting starts at $1 per agent per month, making it practical to give every customer their own persistent computer and grow your fleet as your product grows.
• Persistence between tasks. Keep files, memory, installed software, and logins so agents can pick up where they left off.
• Tools to manage individual agents. Inspect, debug, and fix each customer’s agent directly.
• Different environments for different workflows. Choose Linux computers, Windows desktops, or virtual Android phones based on the software and apps your agents need.

You can run your agent code inside a Maritime VM, or keep your agent on your existing backend and use MCP to let it control a Maritime computer.
