About the role

Nextmv is a remote-first company with over 20 employees working across the globe to change how companies automate and optimize their operations. We provide developers with the building blocks to create and test decision models, quickly. From logistics to healthcare to finance, every company can benefit from decision engineering using optimization and simulation.

Nextmv is changing the way companies make decisions. We’re driven by building useful products and creating a more human workplace. And we’d like your help.

We are looking for a Technical Writer to evolve and own the product documentation process at Nextmv, from start to finish. As the first technical writer, your work will shape how quickly we can grow and offer a truly self-serve experience to Nextmv customers. We are on a mission to make decision science accessible and empower developers with our Decision Stack. Documentation and tutorials are a critical component of this. While some foundations have been put in place, we are looking for someone to build on those and work across engineering, product, and marketing teams to drive a collaborative, documentation-driven culture at Nextmv.

About the role

  • Autonomy : There is a lot of room for autonomy and direction setting in this role. This person will report directly to the Staff Product Manager, Tiffany, as well as work closely with Head of Marketing, Haley, Head of Decision Science, Lars, and CTO, Ryan
  • Collaboration : You will be part of the product team and you will own the documentation writing process at Nextmv. You will work closely with our engineers to understand the key components of our infrastructure, APIs, and user interfaces and help translate and organize that information for customers. You will also work closely with marketing and product to identify gaps and align across all content types.
  • Leadership : We believe documentation is a company-wide responsibility. You will have the opportunity to lead this campaign and involve members across the entire organization.
  • Design : You will have the opportunity to design and structure the documentation process, including to design internal processes for contributing to user documentation, videos, and other learning materials.
  • Technical : Our product is highly technical and built for developers. You will work to deliver documentation in lockstep with product releases to ensure a smooth customer onboarding process to new product features.

Within one month, you will...

  • Learn about and give feedback on our existing user documentation and content strategy.
  • Learn about the Nextmv Decision Stack and implement your own application in Nextmv Cloud.
  • Pair with members of our Decision Analysis team to understand how customers are using our product.

Within two months, you will...

  • Create internal documentation for the technical writing processes at Nextmv, based on your learnings so far and experience elsewhere.
  • Contribute updates and additions to our user documentation.
  • Propose structural changes and identify gaps in our user documentation.

Within three months, you will...

  • Evolve our user documentation in support of our mission to make the Nextmv Decision Stack self-serve.
  • Manage all contributions to Nextmv documentation. We do not expect you to write all technical documentation, but rather to serve as editor-in-chief of the technical documentation, and to facilitate contributions (e.g., through the development of templates and internal documentation on how to contribute, writing style, etc).
  • Own the technical user documentation at Nextmv.

About you

  • Excited to own documentation at Nextmv and play both a pro-active (i.e., setting monthly content goals) as well as re-active (i.e., helping to assemble a tutorial video on adding custom constraints to your input file for a new customer) role.
  • Excellent written communication skills and a portfolio to match.
  • Experience working with stakeholders from Product, Engineering, and Customer Success.
  • 3+ years experience in technical writing.
  • Technical background that enables easy interaction with software developers and enough familiarity with APIs and developer tools to deliver high-quality technical docs.
  • Familiarity with Git and Markdown.
  • Bonus: Experience with Go (our app is written in Go).
  • Bonus: Experience and/or interest in video.

The items above are a starting point for a conversation, not a hard list of requirements. If this role sounds exciting we encourage you to apply.

The compensation range for this role is $105,000 - $140,000 base pay, depending on experience. Learn more about our compensation philosophy and benefits below.

The base salary for any two employees at the same level is the same — whether they’re in San Francisco or Philadelphia, finance or engineering.

Building a career at Nextmv should be straightforward. We give you the tools to own your growth — whether that’s on a path as an individual contributor or people manager.
