Founding Machine Learning Engineer

About OfOne: OfOne is a startup building AI-powered order taking for restaurant drive-thrus. Leveraging LLMs like GPT-4/Flamingo/Llama, we improve restaurant operating efficiency by streamlining labor, boosting sales, and improving customer experience. We are looking for a talented and experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join our small, highly collaborative team as one of the first five employees.

OfOne is venture-backed by amazing seed investors including SignalFire, Correlation Ventures, Y Combinator, and a great list of high-impact angels.

Due to our product’s tight integration of hardware and software, we believe it’s a competitive advantage for us to work together in person 4-5 days per week. Our office is just off the 19th Street BART Station in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, train, and optimize machine learning models to deliver exceptional accuracy and performance of our automated order taker for drive-thru restaurants
• Collaborate closely with the team to ensure the seamless integration of ML models into our products
• Analyze and interpret data to continuously improve model performance and create actionable insights
• Implement machine learning best practices, ensuring scalability and maintainability of ML systems in production
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning research and related technologies, and apply those findings to our product development
• Contribute to the overall technology stack and participate in other technical projects as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining machine learning systems in production environments
• Proficiency in Python
• Strong understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and/or Speech Recognition techniques
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in both a rapidly evolving startup environment and technology stack
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a team
• Ability to proactively recognize problems and identify solutions to those problems
• Familiarity with cloud service platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
• Familiarity with ML Platform tools such as Kubeflow, SageMaker, etc.

Nice-to-haves:

• Proven track record of successfully building ML systems from scratch (zero-to-one) and deploying them in real-world applications
• Experience implementing entity extraction and classification problems
• Experience working with large and sparse data training sets
• Experience with Kotlin or Java
