Backend Engineer

About OfOne: OfOne is a startup building AI-powered order taking for restaurant drive-thrus. Leveraging LLMs like GPT-4/Flamingo/Llama, we improve restaurant operating efficiency by streamlining labor, boosting sales, and improving customer experience. We are looking for a talented and experienced Backend Engineer to join our small, highly collaborative team as one of the first five employees.

OfOne is venture-backed by top-tier seed investors including SignalFire, Correlation Ventures and Y Combinator.

Due to our product’s tight integration of hardware and software, we believe it’s a competitive advantage for us to work together in person 4-5 days per week. Our office is just off the 19th Street BART Station in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems for our automated order-taking platform
• Collaborate closely with our team to ensure the seamless integration of our backend with our ML models and client devices
• Monitor and optimize the performance of our backend systems in production environments
• Implement best practices in system design, code quality, and testing to ensure a reliable, secure, and maintainable system

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining backend infrastructure in production environments
• Proven track record of building and deploying scalable, high-performance backend systems
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and deployment technologies, such as AWS
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving startup environment
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team
• Willingness to problem solve across our entire product
• Ability to proactively recognize problems and identify solutions to those problems

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience working with audio
• Experience taking a backend system from zero to one
• Experience building and maintaining a system that integrates with many 3rd party APIs, particularly Point of Sale systems
• Experience with Kotlin or Java
• Experience with containerization tools, such as Docker and Kubernetes
