About the role

The Role:

The Protocol group is looking to bring on a Product Manager to develop and deliver a roadmap for our Biomass team.

The Protocol group is a diverse combination of product managers, scientists, machine learning experts, and software engineers who are collectively responsible for developing remote sensing techniques to ensure that forest carbon credits are real, additional, long-lasting, and responsible for a global net reduction in atmospheric CO2.

As PM for the Biomass team you will work closely with the product, science, modeling, and engineering teams, as well as with business, operations, policy staff, and a range of other stakeholders, to deliver high-quality models of forest carbon that service the verification, monitoring, and issuance of carbon credits. You'll be responsible for aggregating the requirements across this diverse group, developing a shared vision for the Biomass team, implementing a clear roadmap, and ultimately ensuring delivery against those goals.

The role is remote however you will be supporting clients and team members who are based within the Americas, so must be comfortable with those working hours.

Who We Are:

Pachama is a mission-driven company looking to restore nature to help address climate change. Pachama brings the latest technology in remote sensing and AI to the world of forest carbon in order to enable forest conservation and restoration to scale. Pachama’s core technology harnesses satellite imaging with artificial intelligence to measure carbon captured in forests. Through the Pachama marketplace, responsible companies and individuals can connect with carbon credits from projects that are protecting and restoring forests worldwide.

We are backed by mission-aligned investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Amazon Climate Fund, Chris Sacca, Saltwater Ventures, and Paul Graham.

What You Will Help Us With:

  • Be the authority on the biomass roadmap
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists in the team to help shape the research roadmap and facilitate the path from basic research into science-based products
  • Work with modeling, science, senior product, policy, and engineering team members to ensure the roadmap aligns cross-functionally
  • Communicate with other protocol teams, the protocol group and other stakeholders to share the existing roadmap & identify new problems that we should focus on, updating the roadmap along the way
  • Participate in the development of architectural designs in partnership with engineers
  • Develop detailed product requirement documents to communicate hypotheses, scope out new concepts, and describe primary use cases of upcoming changes, for distribution to the team
  • Define OKRs with the team and track progress against them regularly
  • Ensure that product and model changes are built to spec, and ultimately that the roadmap is executed upon, whilst keeping leadership updated on progress
  • Update stakeholders when new models or features are available through release notes, documentation, marketing collateral, and direct communication
  • Build awesome biomass models and products!

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:

  • Strong alignment to Pachama's values
  • 3+ years of product management experience with a focus on building machine learning / RnD based products
  • Experience working with engineers and scientists through the research stages of product development.
  • A proven track record of driving complex products from basic research to production
  • Experience working with remote sensing based models would be a plus
  • Experience leading RnD teams on a commercial setting would be a plus
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, which translates into being a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic and ambiguous environment
  • A proven track record of shipping complex products
  • A deeply analytical thought process, driven by data and first principles
  • Near-mastery of Jira and Notion (or similar)
  • A team focus and low ego
  • Crisp communication skills
  • A strong ability to prioritize across multiple dimensions
  • A results-oriented mindset - you do whatever it takes to execute on complex projects

Why you should join Pachama

Pachama's mission is to restore nature to solve climate change. We are using technologies such as machine learning applied to satellite data to measure and monitor carbon sequestration and deforestation risk on forests worldwide. We then use this data to help originate, certify and commercialize carbon credits to fund reforestation and conservation projects that sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity and support local communities.
