Unlocking carbon markets for European forest owners
We enable forest owners to access carbon markets the easy way. We build software that automatically assesses forests through remote sensing data and simulates its future development to allow us to quantify carbon stock changes over time. Forest owners can store additional carbon in their forest by adapting sustainable forest management practices. Each additional ton of carbon stored generates a "carbon credit". By investing in forest carbon projects, companies can actively contribute to climate protection. Through the sale of carbon credits, forest owners benefit from a recurring income that is reinvested in sustainable forest management.
Read more about the challenges of the carbon market and what we’re doing to address them in our recent TechCrunch article.
We're active on a two-sided market: Our target customers are forest owners looking to turn their forest into a certified carbon project and carbon credit buyers who buy carbon credits to compensate for their unavoidable CO2-emissions.
Our product is the heart of the interaction with our customers - both forest owners and corporate carbon credit buyers. From a forest owner’s perspective, getting certified to issue carbon credits should be simple, fast, and affordable and for corporate buyers the purchase of carbon credits should be as effortless, transparent, and high-quality as possible. In this high impact role, you work directly with our CPO to best deliver value to both of our key personas.
Are you excited about Pina? Here is how you can join our journey. We aim for a fast recruiting process, with the goal to accomplish all steps within two weeks.
Drop us some lines along with the documents mentioned in each job description. We are very curious to read about you.
It's time to get to know each other! You will have a first short call with a Pina team member. You can ask all your open questions. And we would like to understand your motivation, expectations, and working style better.
*We will do our best to schedule the following three parts into 1 day to allow for a quick process and decision.
Solve a small task related to the job position at home or (if possible) at our office. This does not take longer than 3 hours. The task provides you a first glimpse of Pina's current agenda. And we get a better idea of your skillset. Important: It is not about a 100% perfect solution, but rather about how you approach a given problem.
Meet your go-to co-founder, with whom you will be closely working at Pina. You will present and discuss your task and get the chance to ask any open questions.
Now it is time to meet the other two co-founders. In this interview, we would like to better understand the experiences you gained in past projects and jobs as well as your motivation to join Pina. We may also ask you for references we can call at this stage.
If you and we think it's a fit - let's get started! In a last step we will discuss your contract details and everything about your first days at Pina.
P.S.: You're wondering why there isn't a list of requirements in the job description? We believe that it is more important that you are excited about the described job role and want to learn more, than simply fulfilling a list of high-level requirements. We want to hear your story!
European forests are dying due to the consequences of climate change, namely droughts, storms, and beetle infestations. Thus, not only the forest carbon storage decreases, but also the habitat for many animals and plants. A potential way of fighting forest degradation is to adopt more sustainable forest management practices, i.e. planting climate-resilient mixed forests instead of monocultures. However, this can be very costly for forest owners.
Pina's mission is to protect our forests by quantifying and rewarding sustainable forestry.
Pina Earth is building a suite of digital tools for data collection, monitoring, and certification of forest carbon projects. With Pina Earth, forest owners can start high-quality carbon projects on their properties and use the new income stream to prepare their forests for a changing climate. Founded only last year, the startup already has active pilot projects on over 1,000 hectare (∼2,500 acres) in Germany. The founders met at CDTM and joined their expertise in sustainability science, software engineering, and machine learning to help EU forests.
