About the role

Pyka is looking for a Test and Integration Engineer to support the development of its autonomous electric aircraft. You will lead numerous discrete projects targeting system reliability, usability, and manufacturability. In addition, you will work closely with engineers from each primary discipline to develop robust manufacturing procedures that ensure that each Pyka aircraft leaves the factory in an airworthy condition ready for customer training.

In this role you will have significant autonomy and the opportunity to contribute to many of Pyka’s most innovative and complex technologies.

About Pyka

Pyka’s goal is to provide society with a new form of fast, environmentally friendly, and accessible transportation enabled by autonomous electric aviation.

To get there, we’re taking a different approach than most. We're applying our technologies to every industry where electric aircraft can be useful, starting with the highest value and most dangerous jobs. In doing so, we're building useful, game-changing products manufactured at scale, while perfecting the safety, reliability, and capabilities of our autonomy engine and electric propulsion systems.

Today, we supply our aircraft to agricultural service providers and farmers as an autonomous tool that makes aerial crop protection safer, more targeted and less harmful to surrounding environments. Our vehicles are highly economical to operate and easy to deploy. What you work on at Pyka makes people’s lives better now and brings the future of electric aviation one-step closer each day.

We design, develop and manufacture an ecosystem of technologies including proprietary flight control software, avionics, high power density motors, motor controllers, batteries, and custom carbon-fiber composite airframes.

We foster a welcoming community within our company that promotes experimentation, asking questions, making simple solutions to complex problems, and expressing different views and opinions. We are a transparent company both internally and externally and do not believe in operating in “stealth mode.” Lastly, we don’t work 60 hour weeks, and don’t expect you to either. In this role you will have a great deal of responsibility, earn a competitive salary and benefits,  and contribute to the development of groundbreaking technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the electrical engineering team and the manufacturing engineering team to set up electronics subsystem testing and aircraft integration infrastructures

  • Work with the design engineers to design, build, and set up acceptance, endurance, and environmental testing of electronics subsystems (motor controller, flight computer, etc.)

  • Develop and document instructions and procedures for various tests

  • Work with suppliers to set up and maintain the testing equipment

  • Guide technicians to perform testing and finish test reports

  • Work with the aircraft integration team to develop integration procedures and guidelines

  • Help the manufacturing team design and build tools/fixtures for aircraft integration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing mechanical fixtures and parts using CAD tools such as Solidworks, NX

  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools such as laser cutting, 3D printing, etc.

  • Understanding of wiring diagrams and electrical schematic diagrams

  • Experience with electromechanical system acceptance testing and endurance testing

  • Experience integrating complex systems that involve wiring harnesses, electronics subsystems, and mechanical and composite parts

  • Excitement to build things and try new ideas

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clear and concise procedures and instructions

Company Perks

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Employer-sponsored health, dental and vision insurance, FSA with employer matching, and 401(k)

  • Paid holidays and unlimited PTO

  • Free catered lunch and plenty of snacks

We make hyper-short takeoff and landing autonomous electric aircraft. Today, we’re using our aircraft to protect crops with fully automated aerial sprays in order to obtain the flight hours, technical readiness, and scale required for human transportation.

Our aircraft make aerial crop protection safer and less harmful to surrounding communities. They’re also highly economical to operate and easy to deploy.

We are the only company in the world approved for commercial work with full-scale, autonomous aircraft. What you work on at Pyka makes people’s lives better today.

Pyka’s core technologies include proprietary flight control software, avionics, high power density motors, motor controllers, batteries, and custom carbon-fiber composite airframes. Our full-stack team is from Cora/Kittyhawk, Joby Aviation, Waymo, and Google[x].
