About the role

At ReadMe, we’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here! ReadMe is open to hiring folks fully remote in the US, hybrid, or in-person at our San Francisco HQ.

Hi! I’m Ilias (he/him)—I’m a manager on the Full Stack Team here at ReadMe. 👋

We’re looking for engineers with big picture thinking and eye for detail to help us build an outstanding documentation platform. You’ll work on solving problems you care about, while growing as an engineer in whatever direction you choose.

ReadMe’s engineers are cross-functional—if you want to work a bit on a front end project, do user research with the Design Team, or be part of the planning process for a new feature, go for it! Engineers here love learning by doing, and since we’re a project-based team, there’s always a chance to learn something new with talented peers supporting you along way.

If you want the autonomy to build products you’re excited about and proud of, you’ll love working at ReadMe!

🦉 What we do

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Intercom, Airbnb, or Notion, you’ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it’s so much more than just docs. We’re providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease. Our Engineers are especially excited to see the impact their work can have, because they care deeply about developer experience.

You can read more about what it’s like to work at ReadMe on our<u>careers page</u>, or our<u>Key Values page</u>. We've written on our blog in the past about<u>how we interview</u>, and feel free to browse our other<u>blog posts</u> as well if it strikes your fancy!

✅ Do what you care about

We’ve got a unique blend of folks who enjoy diving deep in their niche knowledge areas and those who have fun working on a variety of topics over time. The following are some examples of what you might work on, though we always encourage engineers to follow their interests!

  • Join one of our project pods and help the team ship features as part of our six-week sprints.

  • Roam across the entire app doing everything from optimizing database queries to integrating API data into the UI.

  • Contribute to one of our open source projects, like our api package, Markdown engine, or our Metrics SDKs.

💙 You’ll love this job if you are…

  • Framework-flexible : While you should have a working knowledge of JS/CSS/HTML, we care more about your architectural thinking than the tech you use.

  • Open to switching it up: You want to work on both interactive client-side UI and elegant server-side APIs and care deeply about the full product experience.

  • Product-focused : Building a better documentation and developer experience platform for all is something that inherently excites you.

  • Not a perfectionist : You take risks, learn from your mistakes, and succeed beautifully every so often.

  • Excited to take ownership : We believe the way to learn is to take things on and own them. You’re even welcome to take on passion projects and <u>be</u><u> the change you seek</u> to drive change.

  • Collaborative : Your code reviews and pull requests are detailed, you’re always happy to share knowledge, and you love a good pairing session.

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

  1. We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about full stack engineering, and help us get to know you better!

  2. If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Ilias Tsangaris, our Full Stack Manager! He’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  3. Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with our Head of Engineering Rafe Goldberg, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background.

  4. Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the Full Stack Team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  5. We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️
