About the role

We are looking for an engineer with robust experience in handling large scale multi-modal data pipelines. Previous experience with geospatial or other forms of large scale satellite or time-series data in a production setting is a major plus.

Why join us

  • Real world impact. Help us predict hurricanes early!
  • Cutting edge technology. We are working with some of the biggest training datasets in the world and we are constantly doing things in new ways.
  • Work with a dynamic team. We are committed to building AI that will improve the world and hope you are too!
  • Our datasets are the lifeblood of our models and there are petabytes of untapped geospatial data that we need to consume. We are looking for exceptional engineers to help transform this data into the next generation of global forecasting systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement petabyte scale geospatial data pipelines, capable of processing large multi-modal heterogeneous volumes of data relevant for the weather and climate domain.
  • Design and optimize schemas to handle gridded data, time-series, and satellite imagery.
  • Implement robust data validation, indexing, and search capabilities across multidimensional geospatial data sources.
  • Streamline the ingestion and preprocessing of data for our foundation models.
  • Design fault-tolerant systems for ingesting, storing, and managing forecast data with high refresh rates.

About the interview

We pride ourselves on being thorough yet transparent, and we aim to make the experience both enjoyable and useful. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Initial Chat: You'll have an introductory call with a founding team member. While we typically reach out to candidates first, we're always excited when talented individuals find us.
  2. Technical Deep Dive: A team member will explore your background, focusing on your past projects and technical challenges. Expect detailed questions – we dig deep because we want to understand your grasp of technical trade-offs and system design decisions.
  3. Take Home Project: You'll receive a project to work on at your own pace. Whether you're a speed demon who completes it in an hour or someone who enjoys a more methodical approach, we value both styles. Just keep in mind that longer completion times may raise expectations accordingly.
  4. Team Round: You'll meet with every team member. As we are quite small, we operate on consensus hiring, so it's important that everyone's excited about bringing you aboard.
  5. On-site Visit:  If we're mutually excited after the previous rounds, we'll fly you out to work with us for a few days. You'll have flexibility in timing and what you'd like to work on during your visit.

Remember, you can opt out at any point in the process, and we welcome your feedback throughout. We're committed to respecting your time and will be upfront if we don't see a strong fit.

About Silurian

At Silurian, we’re building foundation models to simulate the Earth, starting with the weather. Our mission is to scale these models to their full potential and push them to the limits of physical predictability. Ultimately, we aim to model all infrastructure that is impacted by weather including the energy grid, agriculture, logistics, and defense. Hence: simulate the Earth.
