About the role

Snapdocs is a rapidly growing company backed by investors like Sequoia, Y Combinator, F-Prime and Tiger Global. We're an innovative team taking on the extensive mortgage market, bringing scalable and sophisticated software to a pillar of the US economy that still relies on fax machines and manila envelopes.

Snapdocs Engineering is geared to begin our search for a Senior DevOps Engineer, tasked to improve and scale our freshly minted cloud infrastructure pipeline which powers our mortgage closing platform. As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will play a central role in building and maintaining our staging & production Kubernetes environments, with a lens towards automation and resiliency.

As our platform traffic expands, it is critical that we proactively build out fully automated CI/CD pipelines from the ground up. Our DevOps team is committed to the goal of building the internal tooling and processes necessary to safely accelerate our deployment velocity. We strive for 99.99% platform uptime by improving performance, monitoring, and developing best practices for disaster recovery.

The day to day work straddles both infrastructure development and deployment automation. Key responsibilities will include: leading major projects and design decisions around release velocity, facilitating in-depth peer code reviews to improve applications, and designing DevOps architecture and processes to proactively prepare for a friction free transition as the company scales. Although the role falls into the Dev side of the DevOps spectrum, knowledge of Systems Operations is necessary to contribute to the all-hands-on-deck philosophy of our team.

Stepping into the role, you’ll evaluate our CI/CD processes around deploying our applications across different environments. You will meet and collaborate with an agile team of other DevOps experts, report to our Senior DevOps manager, and interact with other stakeholders (core engineering management, product, and our dedicated release teams).

When not developing core services, you’ll jump in and build new tools for our engineering teams. When the need arises, you should be ready to lend a helping hand to debug production issues in addition to participating in bi-monthly on call rotations. Note that most issues can be resolved during business hours, ensuring a good work-life balance.

An ideal candidate carries 5 years of DevOps engineering experience in a scaling fast paced environment. We are currently working in a Ruby framework as we make the transition to Go. Knowledge of Terraform is key to the success of this role as we future proof our automation and deployment infrastructure. Object Oriented Programming concepts are non-negotiable; the rest of our tech stack can be learned. You have seen scale in your time, solving a diverse range of problems with sophisticated distributed systems & relational databases.

Along with Terraform, Snacdocs Engineering is working in Ruby on Rails, Go, React, Postgres, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. As we grow, our tech stack will continue to adapt based on new demands and capabilities within the ever expanding DevOps ecosystem.

This is a fully remote role and will stay remote even after our San Francisco and Denver offices reopen. Different from other organizations, Snapdocs Engineering is collaborative, proactive, and fosters a culture of trust and diversity of thought. Like minded candidates are encouraged to apply!

Colorado applicants: This role pays $150,000 - $175,000 annually plus equity in the company. Compensation for other locations will vary. Our salary bands are regularly updated based on Randstad salary benchmarks.

Snapdocs strongly values diversity and drive. We want to work with people of different backgrounds and different paths in life, and we trust our team to make smart decisions. This means we value independent work as well as collaboration. We provide outstanding benefits (listed below) and while we have hubs in both San Francisco and Denver, we're an extremely remote-friendly company with over a third of our staff outside of those two hubs!

Our benefits include (but are not limited to):

  • 4 weeks + 1 day of vacation
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender)
  • Flexible spending account for healthcare and dependent care
  • Galileo, Modern Health, Urban Sitter, and Northstar Financial memberships
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Commuter benefits
  • 10 year exercise window on your equity (!!)

We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. Why you should join Snapdocs

Snapdocs powers homeownership. Using technology, we’re building the connective tissue for an entire pillar of the U.S. economy: residential real estate.

Today, we’re working to perfect mortgage closings, but that’s only the beginning. If we succeed, more than five million families per year will gain clarity and transparency as they make the biggest financial decision of their lives: buying a home. Before Snapdocs, no one felt responsible or empowered to solve the problems we face every day we come to the office.

It's complex and difficult work, and the result is not an app we brag about at tech industry parties. Instead, we're making a difference and carefully building a team that shares our priorities—pragmatism, respect and empathy for our clients, and building honest products that improve all our users’ lives.
