About the role

Swifteam helps you manage the remote team's onboarding/offboarding and device purchasing, financing, approvals, storage, logistics, and management. We’re looking for people with a strong background or interest in building successful products or systems; you’re comfortable in dealing with lots of moving pieces; you have exquisite attention to detail, and you’re comfortable learning new technologies. Software engineering and innovation are at the core of our team. As a QA Engineer, you will build the core of the QA process, and contribute to the products and APIs in a spectacularly robust fashion.

You will:

  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities
  • Design, develop and execute automation scripts using open source tools
  • Identify, record, document thoroughly, and track bugs
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements
  • Monitor debugging process results
  • Make recommendations for product improvements that would enhance user experience.
  • Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
  • Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies

You may be fit for this role if you:

  • 2+ years of experience in a software quality assurance role at a high-growth startup
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes
  • Experience in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools
  • Solid knowledge of Python or Shell scripting
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Experience with performance and/or security testing is a plus
  • Experience with API testing, specifically with Postman, is a plus
  • Experience with device management (MDM), Munki or Chef, is a plus
  • Proficient in both oral and written English communication

What’s it like to work at Swifteam?

Swifteam was launched in 2022 and accelerated by the Y Combinator program. We were building a language learning product and decided to pivot the team to focus on solving the biggest issue we faced as a remote team. We look at Swifteam as a constant work in progress. We’re here to support each other in our curiosity and creativity – which we pursue thoughtful discussion and knowledge-sharing among a diverse set of peers and colleagues. We want to hear from you and share with you our vision. We will love to connect people passionate about remote work and productivity solutions as much as we do.

About the interview

The interview process is a deeper dive into technical abilities, product thinking and overall fit. For the “fit” portion, we are again looking for ownership and autonomy, but we also dig deeper into communication. This is evaluated throughout the process -- in how you communicate your approach, solutions and overall thinking.

Each interview is 1 hour long, with 45 minutes allocated for the technical portion, and 15 minutes for Q&A. The process is the same for most of our technical roles, and gives you the opportunity to ask questions throughout.

Each interview in more detail:

    1. Screen call: we will discuss any potential questions you might have. It is the opportunity for the company to understand your background and why us. We might ask technical questions at the screening calls.
    1. Take-home assignment: You will be assigned a take-home assignment to finish within 5 days. For engineering positions, we will often contact real-time coding sessions instead.
    1. Interview with the team: You will have a chance to meet with the team before receiving our offer.

We try to schedule two portions of the interview at a time. After the first two interviews, we sometimes short-circuit the process with a “no-hire”. (On rare occasions, we short-circuit the process for a “hire” as well.) We have found that going through the entire process gives us enough to make a go/no-go decision. We offer feedback to candidates who request it, and relate the feedback to the skills, qualification and interview process above.
