Why we’re building Willow Voice

We spent an entire year pivoting across different industries before landing on Willow.

We started out building for assisted living facilities. The product didn’t land, but we discovered that dictation was a tool to help them stay connected and independent. That showed us how powerful voice could be.

Then, we pivoted to building for medical clinics. We saw how AI scribes were saving doctors hours on documentation and letting them focus on patient care.

Through all these pivots, one thing became clear. Voice dictation is a superpower for anyone who types a lot. It’s 4x faster and easier than manual typing.

Why isn’t voice the default way we interact with our computers? Because the technology just wasn’t there—until now.

That insight led us to build Willow: fast, precise, and personalized voice dictation designed for how we work today.

What makes Willow special is that it’s not just basic voice typing. It’s smart, fast, and sounds like you. Here’s how:

• Context-awareness: Willow looks at what you’re working on so it can get technical terms, names, and phrases right.
• Custom dictionaries: You can add your own words—like company names, industry terms, or team slang—so they’re always spelled correctly.
• Smart correction and formatting: Willow automatically fixes mistakes and adds structure—like formatting emails, breaking up paragraphs, and handling punctuation.
• Personalization (beta): We’re working on making Willow sound just like you—adjusting tone and style depending on what you’re writing.
• Privacy: Willow runs in the cloud for speed and accuracy, but we never store or collect your voice or data. Privacy is our top priority, and it’s built into everything we do. There’s an optional, opt-in setting for users who want to help improve the model, completely anonymized.

It’s 40%+ more accurate than built-in dictation tools, works in under a second, and is so good that most users replace nearly all their typing with it.
