๐Ÿคฏ Why does the problem happen?

Since people often use different devices to access websites and trackers can't always tell the difference between new and returning users, it's common for returning users to be counted as new ones.

This can lead to gaps in website tracking since the new visit isn't connected to the user's previous visits.

๐Ÿงจ How does this affect businesses?

These gaps can cause problems like platforms not reporting all the sales and analytics not having complete information about what happened.

This makes it difficult to understand what is happening with advertising campaigns and makes them more expensive, less stable, and less able to be optimized.

Since the same problem of user duplication also affects analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Customer Data Platforms, marketers end up without a source of truth for the results of their marketing efforts.

This means that they cannot be sure if their marketing efforts are working or not.

๐Ÿ˜Ž How do we solve the problem?

Conversion Pattern solves this problem by running an Identity Resolution Engine to understand if the website user is new or not. We only run analytics, CDP and advertising tags after we know that.

And, in the case of a returning user, we ensure all tags receive the same user id defined on previous visits. This effectively solves the problem of duplicated user profiles, ending the attribution and analytics misreporting.

Cookie banners that are poorly developed are a major reason why user identification has grown to be such an issue. There are several problems with existing solutions. To solve that, we're building our own cookie banner solution that will:

  • Be optimized to get consent as soon as possible while respecting and staying on top of local regulations for cookie-banner design and consent collection.
  • Be always up-to-date and reflect the tags configured with our tag manager.
  • Integrate seamlessly with our Identity Resolution Engine and our tag management solution.

๐ŸคŸ Why did we come up with this?

My co-founder and I ran an e-commerce company that relies heavily on paid advertising, spending over eight digits a year on ads. We needed this solution for ourselves. So we teamed up with our friend and co-founder, who's spent five years at Google and one at Twitter as a software developer working and leading teams involved in Analytics, to build it.
