Hey YC!
We’re Chris and Ryan from Button Computer. We’re dropping some new hardware!
Today we’re launching a small hardware device: a button that you clip to your shirt. You press it to talk to AI, and it responds instantly.
It’s a computer. You wear it. You talk to it. It’s a companion device for your phone and laptop.
But it also runs ‘voice apps’ with an architecture that’s specifically designed for speed – because when you’re talking to your computer, everything needs to be instantaneous. We’re obsessed with latency. Button is by far the fastest voice AI experience we’ve tried.
Every computer that you use today was designed before AI. Your phone. Your laptop. Your watch. They were all built for a world before LLMs. Button really is the first piece of hardware designed exclusively to give you instant access to voice AI. And when you build something from the ground up, you get the opportunity to do it right.
It takes 6 to 10 seconds to pull out your phone, unlock it, find and launch an app. The Action Button helps. But having a wearable that will give you an answer in half a second is an order of magnitude more useful.
Button is also a computer that follows your lead. It doesn’t try to predict your behavior. We don’t track you. It doesn’t notify you or distract you. It’s a tool that you control. You press the button to talk to AI… Our job is to empower you, and then get out of your way.
We care a lot about your privacy. Button doesn’t listen to your private conversations. It can only hear you when you press it.
We worked together on Vision Pro at Apple. After Ryan moved to Colorado, we stayed close. Chris visited Ryan and his family for Christmas, and Ryan was the best man at Chris’ wedding.
We’ve both had previous startups and we’re excited to do this one together!
If you know of anyone who believes in the future of voice AI, we’d love to meet them! If you’re an angel, please feel free to book a time directly at: https://cal.com/chrisnolet.
Thank you for your support in building the future of conversational computing!
