Principal Research Scientist

We are building the next generation creative studio, powered by the most capable video and image foundational models. We are creating the place where generative image and video experiences will be built.

We’re a small team of young & hungry researchers, and have raised over $30m from world class investors including Khosla Ventures & YCombinator. We released our first model two months ago, quickly becoming the fastest growing AI product on Discord since Midjourney with over 100,000 users in 6 weeks.

We’re looking for a Principal Research Scientist and the role is fully remote (preference will be given to UK, Europe, and US based candidates). Candidates outside these regions may apply but you will be required to relocate (we will offer a relocation package).

At Moonvalley, our product development process will be a bit non-standard and consist of small autonomous teams working to ship great features and experiences. Here is a good primer. You’ll work closely with your team (product designer, developers) daily, take ownership, make calls, and see things through without a lot of oversight.

What you'll do (responsibilities)

As a Principal Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in shaping and refining our AI models. Working alongside MLEs, you will ensure the development of cutting-edge AI models. Reporting directly to our Chief Scientific Officer, you will:

• Work with your team on groundbreaking research in generative video AI, exploring uncharted territories in this field. Your work will lay down the foundational bricks for technologies that transform the video industry

• Engage with academic advisors to integrate the latest research findings into our offerings

• Stay abreast of the newest trends in machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance our products continually.

• Actively translate complex AI models into accessible and user-friendly products

• Collaborate with various teams to define, design, and implement machine learning models and pipelines

• Design experiments, analyze outcomes, and refine models to boost performance

• Engage in rapid iteration cycles for model Training/Fine-Tuning, testing, and deployment

• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and offer technical advice

What we're looking for (qualifications)

The ideal candidate for this role should possess:

• A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field with proven research experience in modern deep learning paradigms

• Proven track record of publications in the leading machine learning or computer vision conferences and journals

• Minimum 5 years working with a leading world-class, high performance research team

• Proven experience both researching + deploying frontier tech (i.e LLMs, image diffusion, etc.)

• Strong technical proficiency in AI and ML, capable of guiding complex project designs and implementations.

• Proven experience in developing large-scale, complex AI applications

• (Nice to have) Experience with latent diffusion models, autoregressive image generation, consistency models, etc.
