Senior/Staff Fullstack Engineer - Logistics

At Odeko, Staff Software Engineers are responsible for a broad range of technologies that deliver value to our users. They work across multiple levels of our tech stack and are constantly innovating and improving how small businesses and their supply chains work. Engineers at Odeko are passionate, curious, technically competent, energized by building and attuned to stakeholders’ needs.

This is a position within our Logistics group. We are responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of orders at Odeko. To accomplish this, we will build and maintain products to aid our warehouse operation teams and delivery drivers. We engage in advanced optimizations such as automated generation of efficient routes for all deliveries and AI-based procurement pipelines and procurement optimization.

About you:

• You are experienced in system architecture design and have high level of proficiency in the technologies used in the Odeko tech stack; your are also familiar with their limitations and competing technologies.
• You recognize that architectural design extends beyond the boundaries of your group and can outline techniques and working practices used to minimize the risks posed by changes to the wider architecture and stakeholders.
• You lead ongoing development efforts that include problems of very high complexity & scope (spanning a year or so), obtaining support from peers and more senior stakeholders when needed to ensure successful outcomes.
• You have great alignment and influence on the implementation of the strategy of the broader organization.
• You are capable of working independently or as part of a wider, potentially cross-functional, team on problems of high complexity.
• You recognize the importance of regular progress updates and can exercise sound engineering judgment, proposing alternative options and adapting plans when unforeseen circumstances arise.
• You have delivered proof of concept projects to help inform optioneering exercises and planning. You recognize the subtle boundary defining when enough has been done.
• Quality is one of your core values; you can outline the technologies and working practices you use to achieve confidence in your work.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of production-level experience on the backend or platform, ideally in a microservices landscape. 
• Proven experience working in several digital product teams in a multitude of industries and use-cases.
• Knowledge of several development practices and processes and an ability to employ them in the right circumstances.
• Ability to influence and mentor others. Leading by influence and example.
• Independence to own and solve complex issues and features involving several stakeholders.
• Strong engineering best practices with an interest in distributed systems and experience building resilient software. 

At Odeko we rely heavily on the following tools and technologies. 

• Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
• GraphQL Federation to enable API composition 
• React for our frontend web applications
• Kubernetes and Docker to run our applications 
• AWS for our infrastructure
• Concourse/ArgoCD for our CI/CD
• Terraform to enable infrastructure as code

Across these technologies we use a mixture of languages ranging from Python , Ruby , Typescript , Haskell and Swift to name a few but are always open to experimentation and learning. We care much more about engineering skill over a particular language; languages can be learned.

In addition, the Logistics group is responsible for an iOS app, integration with our data science teams, and other advanced sensorial inputs. Experience in one or more of Swift, or in bringing machine learning algorithms into production (Python, databases, data modeling, and heavy computational problems are very handy skills here), or in integrations with advanced distributed systems is highly desirable.
