Founding Software Engineer (Backend)

OpenPipe makes it easy to replace your LLM prompt with a smaller fine-tuned model. This leads to faster, lower cost and often higher quality completions. We already have large paying customers.

About the role

You'll be joining OpenPipe as one of our first hires with a significant equity stake. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership over major features that are critical to our continued success, like new methods of improving training data and monitoring model performance in production.

You do not have to have any prior experience developing AI systems. You do need to be comfortable with wearing both engineering and product hats, going all the way from discussing potential features with users to implementing them on the front and back-end.

We're building a tight team, and also hope we can have fun together along the way!

What you'll do

• Build high-quality software using TypeScript and Python
• Solve infrastructure and deployment challenges and ensure our systems are well-architected and robust
• Provide strong leadership and take ownership of projects across the stack
• Solve complex performance problems and architectural challenges to make our application more robust, highly-available and performant
• Design/spec new functionality in collaboration with customers and the rest of the team

What we're seeking

• 3+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript and Python
• A strong understanding of systems architecture and best practices
• Capable and excited about taking on a broad range of tasks
• A proven self-starter able to identify needs and meet them (this is a great role for someone who wants to start a company in the future!)
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
