Logistics infrastructure to modernize healthcare operations

Scheduling Wizard is building the logistics infrastructure to modernize healthcare operations. Hospitals still rely on manual workflows to manage staffing, patient flow, and core operations, contributing to $760B in annual inefficiency. 19 departments across 14 hospitals already outsource their physician scheduling to us, powered by our internal Scheduling Programming Language and AI-driven workflows. We work with Mass General, Johns Hopkins, UT Southwestern, and others. We are actively onboarding new clients and expanding into patient triaging and provider management systems, working with partner departments at UCSF and other leading institutions. Scheduling Wizard aims to bring healthcare operations into the future by reducing administrative burden and improving clinical care coordination.

Scheduling Wizard: Logistics infrastructure to modernize healthcare operations
See original launch post

Hey YC! We’re Ab, Sam and Zac.

We are building the logistics infrastructure to modernize healthcare operations, beginning with physician scheduling and care coordination, to combat rampant inefficiencies in healthcare.

Our Beginning:

This all began when a doctor at Johns Hopkins told us that residents and attending physicians spend hundreds of hours each year scheduling. Thus began our physician scheduling service.

We built an internal Optimization Programming Language that lets us create complex schedules far faster than traditional methods. Our clients now review schedules we build, rather than spend hundreds of hours manually creating them.

Through our scheduling, we have built trust in healthcare logistics across major academic health systems with active contracts at Mass General, Johns Hopkins, UT Southwestern, LA General, UCF and more! We are actively growing and onboarding new partners.

Revelations I:

These relationships revealed that healthcare administration, more generally, is unbelievably manual, disjointed, and inefficient. That’s why we have expanded our scope to tackle clinical care coordination. We have separated clinic operations into two segments: The Patients, and The Resources.

The Patients:

The patient journey at most clinics begins with a referral process that leads to a triaging bottleneck before a patient can be seen. Only once this is complete can the complex systems for evaluation and treatment tracking begin.

The Resources:

Managing and tracking personnel, rooms, and time is difficult for even the best administrative teams.

The Secret

The problem with healthcare is not on the demand side, it is on the supply side. Care coordination is the bridge between patient needs and hospital resources.

Revelations II:

With our design partners at UCSF and other major healthcare systems, we are building patient triaging and provider management systems to improve and automate care coordination, while reducing administrative burden.

We aim to modernize healthcare operations. As our partnerships grow and our scope expands, we will become the key player in bringing healthcare operations into the future.

The Team

We are a team of award-winning mathematicians, computer scientists, and logistics experts from Johns Hopkins University.

Our CEO, Sam Oberly, is an expert in predictive logistics with a civilian service medal for his logistical coordination algorithm development. He is a published mathematician, trained at Hopkins and Cambridge. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/sam-oberly/)

Our CTO, Abdelrahman Hamimi, is an AWS certified cloud solutions architect who built internal automation software at GEICO used internally across multiple departments. He graduated from Hopkins with an MS and a BS in computer science, and a BA in Economics. His entire immediate family are all doctors. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/abdelrahman-hamimi-2064ab202/)

Our COO, Zachary Dermody, has boots-on-the-ground experience in logistics management at Amazon and McMaster-Carr. He studied economics and computer science at Hopkins, and his mother is a practicing physician. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/zachary-dermody-41238a202/)
