A year and a half ago, we launched Firstbase Agent — our all-in-one state compliance solution for startups. You appoint Firstbase as your registered agent in every state where you operate or have employees, and we receive and view notices from the government, give you reminders about compliance events, and monitor your compliance status in each state, file annual reports, BOI reports, and franchise taxes. We will also help you register and maintain your payroll accounts in any state where you want to hire any employee — this way, you can avoid paying extremely high EOR fees (often around ~$700/employee/month) and instead hire an employee through your own entity. And, of course, we help you fulfill the legal obligation of having a registered agent in every state where you operate.
One huge difference between us and other state compliance providers is that we actually own and operate our own entities in all 50 states as a licensed commercial registered agent. So we have direct contact with the state and don’t have to rely on any third parties for anything.
Why it’s important: to give an example, if you hire an employee in a new state and need payroll accounts, your payroll tax registration partner will typically work with a network of registered agents in different states and won’t really have control over anything. They’ll often need that third party to sign off on forms, which slows things down and often leads to operational nightmares.
