Problem:

We spend an average of 5 hours per day on our phone. Most of that time is spent scrolling “social” media that leaves us feeling like we’ve wasted our time (see engineered amnesia).

Meanwhile, tons of meaningful content exists on the Internet, but it’s hard-to-find, scattered across personal sites, niche publications, and various independent publishing platforms.

Solution:

Browser Buddy is an AI buddy that curates a feed of thoughtful quotes and essays based on your interests. Ask your buddy for something practical like "how to find my first users", explore rabbit holes like "the history of the internet", or learn about "sustainable urban design" to impress your next date.

To build this, we’ve trained a custom model to curate content like people do: with opinion and thoughtful context that’s personal to you. In contrast with social media algorithms that optimize for engagement, we’ve designed our system to promote depth and serendipity.

Motivation:

We’ve spent our entire lives learning from personal blogs, essays, and articles on the Internet. Despite advancements in search and recommendations on all the large social media platforms, we still have a hard time consistently finding high-quality writing that is interesting to us.

That led us to the question:

If there are fantastic recommendation systems on closed social media platforms, why isn’t there one for the open internet?

Since prototyping the first solution months ago, we’ve spent countless hours discovering, reading, and sharing great finds that our “Internet buddy” has recommended to us.
