How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
Swifteam started by solving a painful operational task Angelo Huang’s team experienced at his previous EdTech startup. At one time, they managed 200 contractors around the globe without knowing about device management and inventory software. He spent hours manually onboarding new contractors and managing devices with Excel sheets — but the story starts even earlier.\Back in 2015, Angelo started out managing a team of remote engineers across the globe. He traveled back and forth between each location to deliver and retrieve laptops. Many laptops returned with an Apple activation lock enabled because ex-employees usually left computers with the “find-my” feature enabled. He had to communicate with Apple to unlock the devices, but unfortunately, most devices couldn’t be unlocked without the original invoices.\In 2021, he saw an opportunity to develop an easy-to-use device and inventory management app that doesn’t require you to be an IT manager to operate it. Open-source communities and libraries like NanoMDM, NanoDEP, and Munki made things easier. He also developed great partnerships with industry leaders like CDW for device ordering and Slope for B2B BNPL payment.\\Swifteam is aspiring to become a leader of IT solution providers for the new-generation global workforce. Our mission is to provide products and services that can facilitate the future of work, remote or hybrid.
How did you decide to apply to Y Combinator? What was your experience applying, going through the batch, and fundraising at demo day?
Our batch mentor guided us on product iteration and helped us with pitch practices. We genuinely appreciate Tim, Aaron, and Kevin’s mentorship to help us grow!
How have you kept in touch with the YC community and continued to use YC resources & programs since the batch ended?
We worked with many YC companies to help with their device management and compliance needs. We also launched our own YC deal to help new YC batch companies can quickly ramp up their remote device management.
What's the history of your company from getting started until the present day? What were the big inflection points?
In 2022, we discovered the power of ChatGPT and realized that we can leverage its platform to simplify device management and remote employee management. This was the pivot point of our product.
What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?
Today, technology companies are more open to remote hiring compared to 2 years ago. A bunch of things need to happen when a remote employee joins — including payroll, assigning a device, security setups, and granting access to apps. Most companies have to use many different tools to do everything manually — like updating HR systems, purchasing laptops, shipping them, manually installing software, deploying security policies, and granting app access.
What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?
We believe remote work is a micro trend and will continue to develop in the coming decades. Our vision is to build a remote work infrastructure powered by AI for every company. If we truly succeed, onboarding a remote employee under one platform will be effective and secure all at once.
